The First Nations’ Children By: Alexus Jones

In January, 2016, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal found that the federal government discriminates against children. Weeks after the Tribunal decision, the First Nation Child and Family Caring Society submitted documents.

Canada isn’t doing anything to stop discriminating against First Nations’ children. These steps that are on the caring society website have an injection of $109 million for First Nation Children, across Canada. Half of First Nations’ children lives in poverty, in Manitoba. In Manitoba and Saskatchewan, 62 and 64 percent of status First Nations’ children live in poverty.

The poverty rate for First Nations’ children is, constantly, rising higher, across Canada. There was a two percent increase, since 1996. Lifting all indigenous children up to the poverty line costs $1 billion while $580 million of that would suffice for 120,000 status First Nations’ children.

This First Nation Children living in poverty is wrong. They can’t have an education and have a family of their own and Canada isn’t doing anything about it. They are just making it worse. These First Nations’ children cry every day, hoping that a miracle would happen to them and their family.

If Canada would not do something fast to help these First Nation Children, then these children will grow up not as successful as we are. They will probably be living in poverty
