Health and Time Management By: Andrea John

What is health?

Many of us define health as being free from sickness and disease. Although this is the direct truth and cannot be disputed, health, is, however, not limited to freedom from sickness and disease. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), health is a “state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” “Social well-being is an important aspect of this definition that may not, always, occur to us, in thinking about our health.” Some of the different areas of health are: Financial, Emotional and Environmental.

When we are in good standing, financially, it frees us from a lot of debt and allows us to do the many things we desire. This takes a great deal of pressure off us. Many people are broken, emotionally. Environmental health is not narrowed to how clean your surrounding is. It, also, has to do with how well you operate in the surrounding you are. For example, the people who are in your domain could determine how far you can make it in life.

Did you know that spiritual health is vital? Yes, it is! You cannot be whole physically, mentally, socially, financially, emotionally, environmentally but crooked spiritually! This is what you call an unbalanced way of living. Our spiritual well-being is like an umbrella. Every other compartment of health falls under it and is governed by it. For example, spiritual health sustains and liberates our mental capacity. This will defeat the purpose of “worrying” which will cause our social life to flourish and be effective. How? You may ask! Two significant components that impact health are: Lack of spiritual stability and Indigent health (consuming too much junk and pop, instead of fruits, vegetables and water.)

It is crucial for us to love ourselves and respect our “wholesomeness”. Stress is the #1 killer, not cancer. Stressing one’s self opens the door to cancer, chronic pain, kidney failure and migraine headaches, just to name a few.

The second component is indigent health and this is an indication that you failed to digest food that promotes and improves well-being. What takes place when we do not eat what is excellent for us? This causes us to be physically disabled, unable to progress in life. It slows down our momentum and can deter us from achieving our dreams and goals. For example, there was a time, in my journey, when I was feeling feeble. I was, always, tired, drained and sleepy. When I went to the doctor to do a “physical”, I was told that my white or red blood cells were low and it could be cancerous. That day, I made a conscious decision to commence adapting a nourishing diet.

During this period of my life, I couldn’t keep up with time management and I am still working on becoming better, in this area of my life. I, always, wanted to sleep. When I awoke, I was still tired. I was, still, willing to push but my body wouldn’t have it at times. This happened, because I wasn’t caring for my temple the way I should have. I am much better now than how I used to be. I am consuming my vitamins and minerals. I am eating fruits and veggies.

I shared my experience with you, to convey my message of how salient it is to intake the right food and liquid, if you desire to be vigorous and competent, when it comes to obtaining your full potential in life.

Studies have shown that mental health issues are caused by poor diet which later damages the function of the brain. We cannot buy time and we, definitely, cannot take back how we spent yesterday but we can choose how we live today. Our health plays a big role in “time management.” An healthy soul is a wealthy soul. Time management is a big deal. It helps to keep us on track.

What is time management?

According to the Wikipedia (The Free Encyclopedia), time management may be aided by a range of skills, tools and techniques, used to manage time, when accomplishing specific tasks, projects and goals, complying with a due date. Initially, time management referred to just business or work activities but eventually the term broadened to include personal activities. A time management system is a designed combination of processes, tools, techniques and methods. Time management is, usually, a necessity in any project development, as it determines the project completion time and scope.

The major themes arising from the literature on time management include the following:

  • Creating an environment conductive to effectiveness.
  • Setting of priorities.
  • Carrying out activity around prioritization.
  • The related process of reduction of time spent on non-priorities.
  • Incentives to modify behaviour, to ensure compliance with time-related deadlines.

The major themes from the literature, on time management, mentioned above, send us a valid message that we must be functional, in every facet, when it comes to health. Life is too short to be held back from gleaning what we are here, on planet Earth, to do.

  • Value your spiritual well-being.
  • You need an healthy diet.
  • Respect deadlines.
  • Make sure your health is well.
  • Commit to what needs to get done.

All areas of our health are indispensable; physical, social, mental, financial, emotional, environmental and spiritual. We have to thrive, in every aspect, when it comes to our well-being.
