The State of Canada’s First Nations’ Children By: Janisha Rajakumar

I am going to talk about the First Nations people. Did you know the Algonquins used to travel on boats to go to different countries? Also, do you know how they got food? They hunted animals like deer, birds, also, they would eat berries, salads, maple syrup and hazelnuts. They would gather crops and they would make food from it. The Algonquins lives in Ontario and Quebec. However, within 600 years, they moved to the Atlantic Coast and Ottawa Valley. In the past, the Algonquins lived in Wigwams which are domed shape huts. In the Wigwams, they have many shelves to put there pots and pan on. They used tools like animal skins, bones, rocks, wood and bark. They, also, use weapons like bow and arrow, axes, spears and knives. All of those were made of sharpened stone that were attached to pieces of wood or bones. These are the tools and weapons they would use, for hunting animals and preparing food. The main musical instruments that they use are drums but there are others such as rattles, flutes and whistle. They, often, create baskets and put different designs on them. Their clothings are made of animal skin and they like to put designs on them. The First Nation people are smart people, as they were able to live their lives with their surroundings.
